When exactly did the egg-basket-candy-tradition die off?

Mbala and I usually never eat candy but we decided to go out this morning looking for a single Cadbury egg.
We couldn't find one! Not at Wal-mart nor gas stations nor qwik-trip... they just apparently do not exist in this city.
I remember a time when you would seriously see displays of them *everywhere*. No creme egg for me. :<

And not just Cadbury eggs - but there was NO easter candy! Well, a few sad white rabbits at Wal-mart but the gas stations didn't even have any at all.

Is it the economic crisis or do people just not do that stuff anymore?

We bought strawberries and angel food cake instead - which is much better and healthier, but seriously... what's going on?

It's all over the place here! Most of the time though, if you want Easter candy you have to buy it a week or more before Easter. It all goes on huge discount sale Easter day here and sells out really fast (Walmart, etc).

It's weird - there weren't like empty boxes or places where they would have been, or other seasonal candy. There was just... nothing. One row of a few sad premade easter baskets (expensive, not on sale, with m/ms in them) but NO easter candy. o.o

Agree with this. I was thinking of buying discount Halloween candy last year but by Halloween night it's already gone and replaced with Christmas lights.

That's the weird thing - there wasn't even a place for it and I didn't see anything else up in the seasonal area. Just... no candy. And when I went grocery shopping last week I didn't see anything either. :> Apparently its a regional thing!

Man. Every store around here has candy all over the place. Maybe it's just where you guys are.

Next year I'll have to order it from amazon.com or something. :> Sometimes I feel like I'm living in a bubble!

Wierd, the Walmarts up here have rows upon rows of Easter candy left. I have no clue why Rochester would be any different O.o

People do that stuff in advance. The store I work at had tons and tons of Cadbury eggs, but we sold out of them in the middle of last week.

I wasn't able to find much cadbury egg stuff this year :(
most years there is a ton even left over, but not by me this time. I start looking early. it was strange.

hmm now that you mention it I haven't seen Cadbury's creme eggs at our store at all this year. Lots of other candy and chocolate bunnies but not cadburys...odd.

Odd, we got a metric ton of cadbury eggs from family, who I assume had no trouble finding them. *share*? ^^;

They were big in stores everywhere here, and still at least until Saturday.

That's so odd. Try the Walmart over here by our side of town instead? They had a ton of Easter stuff a few days ago when I stopped for stuff for my ear.

If they're all out, then all I can think is there was a huge rush and they sold all their stock. Which is bizzar to me. I wanted to try and go cash in on the after holiday sale for the Cadbury Eggs and Snickers Eggs myself. I'll try and grab you guys a box if I see any.

Uhm...I'm in Chicago and they're still everywhere.

Maybe your town just decided to be lame this year?

Youtube featured a comical short on the "Cabury Egg Company" today:

They were all over stores until Saturday, here. Then stores stopped buying more, and their stocks ran out pretty quick.

No more "huge stocks of cheap candy the day after easter" anymore :(

Oh dear god! I have seen waaaaay too much easter candy! Then again, I work in a supermarket in the evenings and we've had easter candy since the day after Valentines Day. Luckily, most all of it was gone by Sunday morning. Hate to say it, but you probably missed it by a single day. I know my store was already filling the shelves with summer items by Sunday afternoon.

I couldn't find much here either. :( This is the first year I've gone without a single Cadbury egg.
