There and back again.

Courtesy of Mbala, here are some pictures from our recent adventures:

A waterfall on the Hemlock Trail in Hoosier National Forest.

I love hiking! There were neat little undercuts/caves in the walls along the trail.

Hoosier national forest in Indiana had beautiful fall color for us to enjoy. We've missed a lot of it since Minnesota decided to go straight from summer to winter with snow in the beginning of October this year.

I am not a religious person, but I really enjoy the architecture of churches. Mbala and I got a grand tour of the Benedictan monastery in Ferdinand, Indiana. It's a huge and beautiful church. Mbala got a bunch of neat pics of the monastery, I'll make him post them later.

I was worried we couldn't enter the monastery when I saw this sign, but then I remembered we'd left all our uranium at home, thank goodness.

Our Vibe, Smith, posing as a car commercial car in Hoosier.

In case you didn't know - semis are full of awesome (taken of the back of a truck on the highway).

Holly is doing PhD research at the University of Kentucky and gave us a tour of the lab where she works. We got to meet some of the lab pigeons who were very neat to see.

Holly at work and the Pidgeonator - a control/switch system for the expriment boxes. It may be old, but if it ain't broken... why upgrade?

The belgian sheepdog, Ada, running an experimental trial - trying to match items on a touch screen.

Ada, performing the matching test with her nose. The research Holly is working on is really fascinating - and don't worry, Ada is a pet (like all the other dogs in the trial) - they aren't kept just for research tasks. ;)

One of the best things to do when traveling, this sign says it all!

The Kentucky State Horse Park had (of course) beautiful horses - this is a 'Spanish Norman' horse - a breed of andalusian and percheron influence.

Horses are so cool!

Horses always win size comparison contests.

There was literally no one else at the gypsy vanner show, so we had the stadium to ourselves. Fink was very serious about the event, as you can see. I seem to lose headbands like left socks so I only had this flaming red one to wear. I eventually made an emergency Target run so I have my nice less-flashy black trademarks back again.

Draft horses are full of awesomeness!

The horse park had a lot of nice meet-and-greet opportunities - here Peachcat gets the chance to chat with the owner of an adopted standardbred racehorse.

Now... back to work! Enid, Oklahoma and St. Louis (Eureka), MO are on the plate for later this month!

That photo collection is so awesome, that the only words I can come up with are "the second horse has purple earhats".
