I realized I'm generally listening to the same library of songs over and over, and even on Pandora I'm getting a bit stale.

So I thought I'd ask, what are some of your favorite songs? Bands? Do you have a favorite pandora station?

I like pretty much all music, save for rap. If you suggest something, I'll give it a try!

That's one of the ones I enjoy and the first version I heard, so I love it too.

When I'm painting I'm usually listening to the Niyaz or Azam Ali station, or the Shpongle one. Those are Iranian/Middle Eastern and psychedelic downtempo, respectively. I bought all three Niyaz/Azam Ali albums on iTunes and I don't regret it.

I just jump around through all the different genres, I like country Tim McGraw and Trace Adkins, Bollywood is love particularly with Shah Rukh Khan, Rob Zombie and techno hard metal..... So many sounds so little time! ;) Have fun trying some new stuff!

Red Hot Chili Peppers (Stadium Arcadium is the newest album), Styx (70's rock, yay!), Disney's Greatest Hits (lol, can't go wrong with Disney songs), Pink Floyd, Yeti....

All rock genre, those are. I'm pretty limited in my music, and I have a lot of random songs that I don't know the names of (cept for Time Warp and Macho Man, lol), so I can't say more off the top of my head.

But you definitely need to listen to Styx, their songs are awesome.

I've been listening to a lot of Pink lately.

Angels & Airwaves is a band I discovered through Pandora on my Coldplay/Snow Patrol stations. Love them. "The Gift" and "True Love" are among my favorite AVA songs.

I listen to some post rock (long, wandering rock instrumentals). Explosions in the Sky is my favorite band there, "Yasmin the Light" my favorite song.

Darren Hayes was the lead singer of Savage Garden, and he has an amazing two-disc solo album called This Delicate Thing We've Made. The song "On the Verge of Something Wonderful" never fails to make me smile--it's very 80's-influenced, and the video even includes some Max Headroom sort of stuff. And "Casey" is a very important song to me.

My favorite band remains Def Leppard, though I know they're not for everyone.

And for something REALLY different, I listen to K-pop: specifically, a band called Super Junior, made up of 13 very talented young men. Yes, it's a Korean boyband, but it's weirdly addicting. Try out "Miracle" for more generalized boyband poppyness, "Don't Don" for a rock edge, and "Sorry Sorry" for brainwormy delicious technopop.

Pyromania and High'n Dry era Def Leppard = <3

Hysteria's got most of my favorite songs, but oh man Switch 625, Mirror Mirror, Die Hard the Hunter...

Mirror Mirror is my favorite song off H&D. :D I'd say most of my favorite songs are on Pyromania tough.

Oh! Also that Retroactive collection has some great stuff on it, especially Desert Song. *_*

So much music! Ive been listening to mostly soundtracks for the past few weeks. A looot of anime soundtracks are gorgeous. Personally Ive been listening to the ST from Earth Girl Arjuna, Shadow of the colossus ST, Ico St, Battlestar Gallactica st (I never even watched the show but the music is so smushy and perfect for painting to!).

Also other kinda new agey stuff, Curacavi, Ceredwen, Sarah Brightman (if you haven't listened to her yet, start with the album 'Dive' c:)

Individual crack work songs: DJ Encore: Point of no return, Kokia: oto with reflection, Vivaldi's Four seasons but especially Winter (Allegro non Molto), Evergreen animation music video, The track Once from Brotherhood of the Wolf.

And Im not sure if you are interested in Opera at all, I have been heavily favoring opera music(which I neeever thought would happen!), but especially the soundtrack from Farinelli, the vocals in which has such a haunting effect on me. Also been digging male counter tenors and 'natural castrati'..whose voices sound like something out of this world!

Can I challenge your "except rap" statement with Buck 65?
Try http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wyyVh3uc5Y
and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1qa4Sjpl68

Joel Plaskett

Hey Rosetta

Those 3 are from Atlantic Canada, could stick with Canadian content but I should mix it up..

some countryish.. Kathleen Edwards http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-A2kbvsqCQ (also can-con and I love the hell out of this song, and this is a beautiful live recording)
Calexico http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFwYRh8sY8U
Uncle Tupelo (probably my favourite band) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wT1EbMTqYek not much good stuff on youtube

I am going to guess that you might already have Fleet Foxes? If not you need some.

Chad VanGaalen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZScj4F9FA4 disturbing but amazing video

Animal Collective http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxhaRgJUMl8 (this video is probably strange i'm only just watching it now)

I'll stop there. Hopefully you like at least 1 of those things.

Here's some albums I like. There's a fair amount of brit-pop and an 80s sounding band or 2:

Friendly Fires - Friendly Fires
Parts & Labor - Receivers
Ra Ra Riot - The Rhumb Line
School of Seven Bells - Alpinisms
TV on the Radio - Dear Science
Arcade Fire - Funeral*, Neon Bible
Bloc Party, - Intimacy, Silent Alarm
Cut Copy - In Ghost Colors
Hot Chip - Made in the Dark
Keane - Perfect Symmetry, Under the Iron Sea, Hopes and Fears
Le Loup - The Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations' Millennium General Assembly
Radiohead - all their albums
Sigur Ros - Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust
Snow Patrol - A Hundred Million Suns
Stateless - Stateless
The Helio Sequence - Keep Your Eyes Ahead
Bat for Lashes - Fur and Gold
The Submarines - Honeysuckle Weeks
The Notwist - Neon Golden

Hahaha I guess that's it. I listen to a lot of music.

*if you've seen the 'Where the Wild Things Are' trailer, that song is on this album.

I have only one recommendation right now as it's an album I used to listen to years ago and recently rediscovered. It's by a band that nowadays plays metal under the name Korpiklaani, but the stuff on this album is more like rock with native vibes from the Sami regions of Lapland. The band is Shaman and the album is called Idja.
