Dogs dogs dogs

I apologize for being a bit backlogged on posting much of anything, the spring show season has started up again for me and I've been amazingly busy of late. I've got lots of new art and photos to show (including the rest of the photos from Peru) and I will get to those as soon as I can. :)

However, I did manage to snap a few photos from my most recent show, the Bernese Mountain Dog nationals in Wisconson, so I thought I would share! They are just quick pics from my phone, but pics nonetheless!

Gotcher face!

I didn't have time to redesign my booth yet, so this is my makeshift setup for now. Shirts, shirts, shirts!

My awesome booth help.

Bernese mountain dog puppies are ridiculously cute. I mean... all puppies are cute, but these happy waggy fluffballs are amazingly, insanely, irresistably adorable. There were puppies in plenty along with many gorgeous adult dogs (big floofy doofs!)

Another dog show next week, bunch of projects to wrap up, then major preparations for AC in store. Also... my beauceron puppy was born April 8th and will be arriving early next month. I'm so excited I can't stand it - I didn't know if he'd end up being born this year (since the males in the breeder's two other spring litters were already spoken for) but a move and accidental litter ended up with great timing (for me!) - here's a family portrait from a previous litter:

The gorgeous sire.

I will post a bit more about the new pup when we get him, including some information about the breed and our decision to get him. He will be trained as a working service dog over the next few years.

Back to painting!

I probably shouldn't have posted the pictures together - berner puppies make all other puppies look inferior!

Beaucerons and Bernese puppies! That right there's two of my very favourites among all things canine, even if my evil overlord has imprinted me on sled-dogs.

No clipping of ears or tail on the pup, I hope...? Natural Beauceron ears are truly a thing to love.

It's awesome to know another beauce appreciator - so few people here have any idea what they are, most people think they are a weird mutt. I can understand being subjugated to sled dogs, as well!
The pup has a natural tail but cropped ears - I love the half-up half-floppy look but most of the american dogs end up with drooping hound ears here, unfortunately.

Ah beaucerons! I had a pick male from a french litter headed my way but my ex cancelled the reservation out of spite before I could contact the breeder. Someday I'll pick one up.:)

Great breed choice!

I did a lot of research on breeders so if you're interested in the future just drop me a note and I can send you the list I ended up with!

Sure! I'd love to see what you have when the time comes again. I have a somewhat shortlist of potential breeders, but it keeps evolving as the breed scene changes. :)

I'd also be interested if you don't mind sharing. Hubby and I are looking for a breeder to get our pup from next year if you don't mind. We're into tracking and agility here.

I've never seen a beauceron before. Wow! It looks like all my favorite breeds packed into one dog.

They really are awesome - and it is the same for me. They are like the perfect cross of german shepherd, doberman, rottweiler, etc - but with their own unique personality. They are good guard dogs, herders, super intelligent, agile, but not overly neurotic/clingy/etc. like a lot of those types of dogs can end up being.

I want one!!!!!!!

Beaucerons are so gorgeous! What drew you to the breed?

And we seriously looked into bernese mountain dogs for ourselves, actually, but the extremely high mortality rate put me off - which is still very very high in Western Australia because puppy mills are still allowed here. :/

Berners are really sweet dogs - it's too bad they are milled there. :< All the adults I've met have been really sweet, doofy dogs and really a joy. Kind of like a newfoundland/st.bernard etc. but with a bit less of the drooling/drooping/extreme issues of the breed. Some of the big males we saw easily rivaled the size of the small-to-medium members of the giant giant family.
For beauces, ever since I met one about twenty years ago I've been captivated, and I knew if I was ever in the position to get/want a shepherd that would be my dog. I think they are gorgeous and they are a great mix of a bunch of breeds that I like - and a tempering of all the personalities therein. They are athletic, intelligent, have a great sense of humor, are good guardians, highly sociable, awesome dogs. Since I am doing so much traveling alone now for my job, I wanted a travel companion that is capable (easygoing, motivated, trainable, sociable) and intimidating (for the guarding aspect and look) - a dog I can have watch me and my booth, enjoy the car ride and dog sports (agility, rally, etc), and handle being a super socialized service dog - and these guys fit the bill. They are commonly used as police dogs in France, as well as tracking/search and rescue and disability service.

OMG Beauceron Puppies! *love*
I wasn't aware that this breed is known in America.
Is the breeder from your country?
I hope I can keep such a beautiful dog on my own in a few years. :)

Looking forward to see more pics of your dog! :D

Beauces are not popular in the U.S., but there are a handful of devoted people working with them. The breeder I picked is from the U.S., I think there's about about a dozen really active breeders here. They are certainly much more popular/well known in Europe - even very few dog show people here know what I mean when I mention the breed.

Beauceron are absolutely awesome. They're on my list of breeds to consider next year.
